From Ntaria (Hermannsburg) in the south to Milikapiti in the north, homes continue to be handed over in remote communities.
The Territory Labor Government has delivered 1278 new remote homes, including over 800 homes completed under the Remote Housing Investment Package, plus upgrades to close to 1700 homes under all remote housing programs since September 2016.
In the latest handover on Monday, three homes – a four-bedroom and two five-bedrooms – were finalised in the Central Australian community of Ntaria and are now easing overcrowding in the community.
Ntaria is scheduled to receive 42 new homes. Of these, 37 have now been completed and five homes are under way.
On Melville Island, Milikapiti is set to receive 13 new homes, with six of these new homes already completed and soon to be handed over.
Milikapiti is also receiving extension and refurbishment works under Room to Breathe, with works to 15 homes already completed. For example, a previous bedsitter configuration was recently repurposed to achieve a quadplex consisting of a studio unit and three one-bedroom units.
Meanwhile, in the Territory’s west, two new homes were handed over to families in Amanbidji.
In the east, families in Alpurrurulam were given keys to three new homes. The community is scheduled to receive 24 new homes, with 22 complete.
Between now and early next year, families will receive keys to new homes in Wadeye, Gapuwiyak, Maningrida, Gunyangara, Kalkarindji, Bulman, Yuendumu, Ramingining and Milikapiti.
The $2.2 billion remote housing investment package is jointly funded by the Northern Territory and Australian Governments.
