King Island businesses in urgent need of support

Tasmanian Labor

Businesses on King Island are in need of urgent financial support with the public health direction advising people not to travel to the island having disastrous consequences.

Labor Member for Braddon Anita Dow said King Island had been hit particularly hard as a result of COVID and faced a long road to recovery.

“COVID cases right across the state are rising and this is having an impact on all businesses,” Ms Dow said.

“King Island has been uniquely impacted with public health telling people to steer clear unless it is absolutely necessary to travel there.

“This has placed incredible pressure on tourism businesses on the island, with many facing mass cancellations.

“The government need to urgently support the island to get through this current challenge.

“It’s all well and good to say a support package is coming but businesses need support and they need it now.”
