Residents are advised that king tides will be experienced in Cairns next week, from Thursday 4 April through to Thursday 11 April and peaking on Sunday 7 April.
Cairns Regional Council would like to remind motorists that tidal flooding is saltwater, which can damage cars on contact. Avoid parking cars in low-lying tidal areas and never drive through floodwaters.
Motorists should drive carefully and slowly, not only for the safety of road users and pedestrians, but to lessen the impact of bow waves, which can push water into nearby properties.
Council may close roads which are inundated by tidal flooding to prevent damage to private property.
Motorists are required to adhere to signs advising the road is closed and should find an alternative route until the road is reopened.
The impact of these king tides on low lying areas could be exacerbated by heavy rainfall.
King tide levels for Cairns are expected at the following times (other areas may vary):
- Thursday 4 April: 3.02m at 6.21am
- Friday 5 April: 3.23m at 6.59am
- Saturday 6 April: 3.36m at 7.35am and 2.87m at 7.45pm
- Sunday 7 April: 3.4m at 8.10am and 3.04m at 8.27pm
- Monday 8 April: 3.32m at 8.42am and 3.13m at 9.07pm
- Tuesday 9 April: 3.12m at 9.14am and 3.12m at 9.49pm
- Wednesday 10 April: 2.83m at 9.45am and 3m at 10.35pm
- Thursday 11 April: 2.81m at 11.29pm

- Parts of Aumuller St (near Comport St), Portsmith
- Spence St and the Esplanade intersection, Cairns City
- Parts of Draper St (Hartley St to Kenny Street), Portsmith
- Corner of Lily St and the Esplanade, Cairns North
- Sections of the Cairns Esplanade from Spence St to Florence St (near the RSL)
