Labor’s latest bizarre attack on health system

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

In the Opposition’s latest bizarre attack on the health system, they are criticising the Rockliff Liberal Government’s record spending on health.

Minister for Health, Guy Barnett, said the Government was investing more than $8 million a day on health to ensure Tasmanians have access to the health services they need.

“We are boosting our local health workforce and this is reflected in the new doctors and nurses wage agreements, which increases pay and improves conditions,” Minister Barnett said.

“This will help us recruit and retain competitively with other States, therefore requiring less locums.”

The AMA said the new doctors agreement “… repositions Tasmania to be competitive to recruit and retain more doctors”.

In the 12 months to June 30, 2023, the Rockliff Liberal Government has recruited an additional 327 full-time equivalent health staff.

“While we are investing in the health system Tasmanians need, Labor continues to offer nothing but negativity,” Minister Barnett said.

The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to invest in the health services Tasmanians need, unlike Labor who sacked a nurse a day for nine months when they were last in Government with the Greens.
