Liberals break $26 million election promise

Tasmanian Labor
  • Schools left to wait until 2022 for Literacy and Numeracy Coaches
  • Liberals budget cuts impacting frontline services
  • Liberals must come clean on why they have broken their election promise
  • The Liberals have broken a $26 million election promise to rollout Literacy and Numeracy Coaches to every Tasmanian Government school.

Today in parliament Education Minister, Jeremy Rockliff, evaded questions about whether schools will have to wait until at least 2022 until the rollout of these specialist teachers commences.

Shadow Education Minister, Josh Willie, said it is clear that teachers and students have fallen victim to the Government’s budget cuts.

“This is yet another clear breach of the Government’s promise not to cut frontline services,” Mr Willie said.

“By failing to provide schools with foundational literacy and numeracy support the Liberals are compromising the education of our young people to pay for their broken budget.

“The Liberals must come clean on why they have broken their election promise to recruit Literacy and Numeracy Coaches in this term of Government.”
