Licensing centres to build on extended Saturday hours blitz

  • Two future Saturday blitzes in September/October and January/February
  • Customers will be able to attend DoT licensing centres in Cannington, City West or Mirrabooka for driver and vehicle transactions on Saturdays
  • The eight-week blitz in June/July proved to be a success with customers and staff
  • More than 6,300 people visited the three centres during the eight-week period

The State Government will build on the success of its recent Saturday blitz aimed at reducing wait times and alleviating pressure on staff at Department of Transport (DoT) Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) centres with the announcement of two further blitzes.

These will take place over four weekends around the school holidays: from 14 September to 5 October 2024, and from 25 January to 15 February 2025.

The blitzes will again see the Cannington, City West, and Mirrabooka DVS centres open on Saturdays from 7.15am to 2.15pm exclusively for driver and vehicle transactions.

Services such as NDIS, marine, dealer transactions, and Practical Driving Assessments (PDAs) will not be available during these extended hours.

Throughout the eight-week blitz in June and July, a total of 6,386 customers visited the three centres, with an average of 798 daily visitors.

The initiative gained momentum over time, starting with 479 visitors in the first week and exceeding 850 visitors per day from week six onwards.

An evaluation of the blitz revealed positive customer sentiment, with 78 per cent of those who visited on a Saturday scoring the blitz a 10 out of 10.

Many welcomed the extended Saturday hours, with the primary benefit for customers being the convenience of not having to take time off work or school, with learner driver applications being the most in-demand transaction.

DVS staff who participated in the blitz reported positive interactions with customers, with 83 per cent of staff rostered on those days giving the blitz a positive sentiment rating of between 7 and 10.

DoT also encourages the community to get in the Smart Lane and use DoTDirect anywhere, anytime to make payments and manage their licences online, or visit a participating Australia Post PhotoPoint location to update their driver’s licence photo.

As stated by Minister Assisting the Transport Minister David Michael:

“I am pleased to see the Department of Transport remains committed to improving service delivery and reducing wait times for the community.

“The first eight-week blitz produced a positive response from both customers and DoT staff, and we hope that these additional blitzes will continue to make visits to DVS centres more convenient for customers seeking to conduct driver and vehicle related transactions.

“As we have discovered, customers have happily embraced the opportunity to visit a DVS centre on a Saturday without having to take time off school or work, and the extended hours were particularly popular with learner drivers.

“We thank DoT’s staff and customers for their support and look forward to continuing to serve the community with these upcoming initiatives.”
