Lighting the way – community consultation

The City of Perth is aiming to improve night time lighting to enhance safety, walkability and practicality, befitting of a capital city.

Commissioners for the City of Perth have endorsed a draft Public Lighting Framework which will provide an enhanced sense of place, boost the character of precincts and emphasise gateways, public art, historic sites and landmarks.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said a more efficient lighting plan will minimise use of energy and resources, and improve maintenance and control.

“The draft Public Lighting Framework is a high level visionary document that provides a coordinated approach to lighting across the city,” Commissioner Lumsden said.

“This framework will assist in driving the future roll out of all lighting across the city, to ensure the City of Perth delivers consistent and effective lighting.

“The objective is to reveal the city’s character after dark, promote safety and connect its night economy through an innovative and holistic lighting approach.”

The draft Public Lighting Framework is now open for community consultation with comment and feedback to be considered as part of the final plan.
