Roxoborough Park Rose Garden has a new addition – the Little Sunset Rose.

It’s the latest to be added amongst the park’s 4000 varieties of roses, including the Australian Bi-Centennial Rose, The Hills Shire Council’s Centenary Rose and the Olympic Gold Rose.

The new rose was selected by the Soroptimist International of the Hills District group. The local group is celebrating their 40th anniversary in The Hills Shire and 100th anniversary of the SI Organisation internationally.

The Little Sunset rose takes its name from its vibrantly coloured yellow flowers with red outer petals, resembling a sunset. It’s also a close resemblance and colouring to the original Soroptimist rose.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said she was proud that Council could mark the Hills Soroptimists milestone in this way.

“Yellow roses signify joy, friendship, warmth and happiness – everything that the Soroptimist International embodies,” Mayor Byrne said.

“Soroptimists tackle injustice, they stand up for women’s rights and they inspire young women to be the very best they can be. They aim to be the voice of all women, regardless of nationality, lifestyle or religion.

“Over their 40 years, they’ve given so much back to this community through their fundraising efforts, initiatives and workshops.

“Thank you to the Hills Soroptimists for everything they do to make this community a more connected and inclusive one,” Mayor Byrne added.

Jacqui McLachlan, President of the Soroptimist International of The Hills, said it was an honour to have a section of the rose garden dedicated to the group.

“Soroptimist International is a worldwide volunteer service organisation for women which is driven by it’s mission of transforming lives through education, empowerment and by enabling opportunities,” President McLachlan said.

“This new section of the garden acknowledges and celebrates 40 years of The Soroptimist International of the Hills group’s fundraising and advocacy work in the local district and abroad,” President McLachlan added.

You can see the Little Sunset Rose at the newly renovated Roxoborough Park Rose Garden, located in Alfred Whaling Memorial Reserve, Baulkham Hills.
