Live art residency now available on Sunshine Coast

Artists who are looking for a place to test new ideas in the area of live arts can now apply for the Seedpod Pilot 2020 – an exciting new residency program by renowned live arts organisation, Punctum.

Hitting the Sunshine Coast in early 2020, the residency program will provide the opportunity for an artist to test live art and contemporary performance ideas, undertake experiments, develop new work and take risks in a collaborative environment.

Live art is a performance that occurs at the moment of encounter between artists, the art, participants and audiences. It can be found anywhere from a room, street or paddock, to a netball court, rural hall, car, creek, gallery, library or garden.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said this was the first time the Seedpod Pilot had been held in Queensland.

“Through council’s Horizon Festival and Creative Spaces program, we are experimentally hosting this Queensland-first pilot on the Sunshine Coast to provide one selected creator with a unique opportunity to delve into their practice and test new ideas,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Since creating the Seedpod program, Punctum has worked with more than 400 artists working in emerging fields of live performance, many of whom have gone on to work nationally and internationally – an outcome our resident artist may also pursue.”

The Seedpod Pilot program will provide access to arts professionals, resources, presentation spaces and opportunities for the investigation, development and presentation of live arts.

Punctum and Sunshine Coast Council, through Horizon Festival, will provide assistance towards funding, research and development, profiling and exposure of the live arts practitioners’ work.

Applications are invited from artists at all stages of their career seeking to experiment and develop a new work in the field of live art on the Sunshine Coast.
