Road users can now keep up to date with news of incidents and conditions that may affect their travel in the Hawkesbury thanks to a Live Traffic NSW project by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) in collaboration with Hawkesbury City Council.
Several new live traffic cameras have been installed and are now live in the Hawkesbury, with the cameras at Yarramundi Bridge and the bridge at North Richmond expected to come online end of August. The live traffic cameras at Lower Portland Ferry are currently undergoing site inspections.
The installations will also assist residents who are impacted by bridge flooding or closures as it provides close to real time images of affected locations.

- Cattai Rd, Cattai Creek Bridge – Camera installation completed and camera is live
- Sackville Ferry – Camera installation completed and camera is live
- Wisemans Ferry – Camera installation completed and camera is live (pictured)
- Webbs Creek – Camera installation completed and camera is live
- Yarramundi Bridge – Expected to be ready by August end
- The bridge at North Richmond – Expected to be ready by August end
- Lower Portland Ferry – Undergoing site inspections
Using these cameras, Live Traffic NSW www.livetraffic.com provides regular updates about traffic conditions that affect your journey on NSW roads. This information includes current hazards and major events such as floods, roadworks and traffic incidents.
The cameras are placed in strategic locations to provide users with an image every 60 seconds of current traffic conditions at that location. The still images, provided in near real-time, give users improved information to allow them to plan their trip before travelling in accordance with traffic, possible incidents and hazards. This is a TfNSW project supported by and working with Council for the community.

In addition to permanent CCTV operations, temporary CCTV activities are regularly undertaken state-wide. The temporary CCTV activities are undertaken to monitor and evaluate infrastructure projects to determine if infrastructure is performing as intended.
A range of road-user behaviour data is collected from this type of CCTV to inform this monitoring and evaluation, including, but not limited to, traffic volume, traffic composition, level of service, travel speed, lane positioning. CCTV can also be used in Australian mass passenger transport systems for counter-terrorism.
