Four pop-up vaccination hubs in Liverpool community centres will open from Monday 2 August following effective lobbying by Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller to NSW Health.
Mayor Waller said the pop-up vaccination hubs will operate on a walk-in basis and have the capability to administer hundreds of vaccinations. She welcomed today’s announcement as a fantastic result after several weeks of lobbying NSW Health to bring vaccines closer to home for Liverpool residents.
“I have consistently called for a more effective health response at a community level and I am pleased to see this message has gotten through.”
The pop-up vaccination hubs will operate from 8:30am to 4:30pm on a rotational basis across the Liverpool community:
- Chipping Norton Community Centre – Child’s Park, Cnr Central Avenue and Homestead Avenue, Chipping Norton (open Mondays)
- Wattle Grove Community Centre – Village Way, Wattle Grove (open Tuesdays)
- Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre – 62 Cabramatta Avenue, Miller (open Thursdays)
- Michael Clarke Recreation Centre – 2 Margaret Dawson Drive, Carnes Hill (open Fridays)
Members of the community will be able to access vaccination hubs at each of these locations for one day per week, as specified by NSW Health. Each hub will have 10 registered nurses administering the AstraZeneca vaccine.
“Council has made these facilities available to NSW Health at no cost because we know how important it is that our locals have the opportunity to be vaccinated closer to their homes especially during this stay-at-home order. These locations were chosen based on a thorough assessment of the specific needs of the community,” Mayor Waller said.
“Getting Australians vaccinated is important now more than ever in light of yesterday’s announcement that Greater Sydney is facing another four weeks under stay-at-home orders.
“We’re proud to be doing our bit to help bolster the vaccine roll-out in South West Sydney which is the only way to safeguard the community against COVID-19.
“Liverpool City Council will also continue to support NSW Health with communicating the latest updates and advice surrounding COVID-19 to our culturally and linguistically diverse community,” Mayor Waller said.
