REIWA President Damian Collins saidnow is not the time for local councils to delay andput disruptions on projects, its a chance for them tobe leaders in helping businesses and communitiesto thrive in this difficult time.

By ensuring these key developments across Western Australiaare fast tracked, where possible, meansbusinesses can be kept open, current jobs are sustained and more jobs are created, Mr Collins said.

The more that we can do to support businesses to operate during these uncertain times and support our economy, means the state will be in a better financial position when we start to reopen businesses and get back on track.”

Commercial tenancies

In addition to supportingWA businesses, the Premier Mark McGowan announced there will be a statement released in coming days to stopcommerciallandlords evicting retail tenants.

REIWA understands the governments positionandwill support them where we can, yet safeguards are needed to ensure that landlords do not find themselves in financial hardship as a result, Mr Collins said.

Many landlords are willing to help tenantsas they rely on them being in that space again when they reopen, however REIWA is urging thegovernmenttocome to the party with financial support rather than simply put the burden on landlords.
