The Sydney Business Chamber says Planning Minister Rob Stokes’ ordering of an independent review of building guidelines for the Western Harbour precinct around Pyrmont is long overdue.
“Planning guidelines for Pyrmont have been around since the mid 1990’s and since then it has become part of Sydney’s super-precinct, encompassing Darling Harbour, Barangaroo and the Fish Market.These building guidelines are in urgent need of updating.” says Katherine O’Regan, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.
“We welcome the Premier’s instruction to reconsider the proposal for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and residential tower at Pyrmont, ordering a review of the western gateway to the CBD be submitted by the end of September.”
“This will allow for further input from stakeholders and residents on the proposed tower that would provide much-needed 6-star tourist accommodation and community space, including harbour-side dining and entertainment.”

Speaking this morning at the NSW Independent Planning Commission’s public meeting on the future of the project, O’Regan will outline the importance of this super-precinct development proposal including its creation of over 1,000 construction jobs and around 750 fulltime positions once operational.
