Lotterywest funding supports Anzac Day activities

  • $814,802 grant will help fund dawn service and parade march
  • Range of regional activities will also benefit from grant
  • Veterans Issues Minister Peter Tinley today presented the Returned and Services League of Western Australia (RSLWA) with a Lotterywest cheque of almost $815,000 that will fund a co-ordinated range of activities for the 2019 Anzac Day commemorations.

The $814,802 grant, administered by the RSLWA on behalf of a range of other groups, will help fund the staging of the Perth dawn service and parade march on Thursday April 25, 2019, as well as a number of other metropolitan and regional events.

Other activities supported by the funding will include commemorations of the 1966 Battle of Long Tan, the battles on the Western Front in the 1914-18 Great War and the centenary of Western Australia’s admission to the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia – the forerunner to Australia’s national RSL – in 1918.

In 2017-18, Lotterywest raised $260 million to support WA’s community, including $104 million distributed in 785 Lotterywest grants to 699 different non-for-profit organisations and local governments.

As stated by Veterans Issues Minister Peter Tinley:

“Lotterywest’s continued support for WA’s Anzac Day commemorations helps ensure this very special occasion endures.

“There is a strong community connection with Anzac Day, with most people recognising its national significance to Australia, and much of that can be attributed to the RSLWA’s ongoing work in helping to stage events across WA.

“Anzac Day gives us all the opportunity to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of all who have served their country.

“The State Government, through Lotterywest, is proud to support Anzac Day. In doing so, we remember the contributions of our servicemen and women to our shared heritage and the preservation of the freedoms that we can celebrate as Australians.”
