Major drug operation at Mackay

Detectives from Whitsunday Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and officers from Mackay Tactical Operations Team and Rockhampton Drug Squad last week closed a major investigation, seizing drugs, cash and weapons.

As a result of raids during Operation Mackay Broadus, police located and seized 75g of methylamphetamine, 38g of MDMA, a rifle and other property including computer equipment and fishing gear.

Six search warrants were executed last week which resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old man allegedly linked to numerous property offences across Mackay, Whitsunday and Bowen divisions between February and June this year.

Police also located an allegedly stolen Toyota Prado and caravan as the man was taken into custody in Townsville.

He was charged with 51 offences which included multiple counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, fraud, possession of drugs and enter premises and commit indictable offence by break.

He is due to reappear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 9.

A further five people have been charged with 66 offences

Officer in Charge of Whitsunday CIB Detective Sergeant Luke Scells said the closure of the major drug operation will have a significant impact on the availability and supply of methylamphetamine in not only the Mackay area, but across Queensland.
