One of the City of Parramatta’s most loved parks is set for a new lease on life as construction begins on a multi-million-dollar upgrade of George Kendall Riverside Park in Ermington.
The work will deliver new pathways and a hilltop lookout, providing parkgoers with exquisite views of the City’s most famous landmark, the Parramatta River.
The family friendly park – named after a former Ermington councillor – will feature modern facilities including a learn-to-ride space, an improved path network throughout the park, a vehicle entry loop with pedestrian access and car parking and open areas for play and picnics. Constructed wetlands and additional tree planting will maintain and enhance the natural habitat.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said the $10 million park rejuvenation will entice more people to the area.
“Parks and green spaces are the heart of communities and what better time than now to upgrade George Kendall Riverside Park, as thousands plan their move to suburbs such as Melrose Park,” Cr Pandey said.
“Tens of thousands of families are about to call Ermington and surrounds their new home and they need a piece of tranquillity – George Kendall Riverside Park provides this at their doorstep.
“It’s so important for families to have access to areas where kids can learn to ride and can play safely.”
This significant upgrade to George Kendall Riverside Park is being delivered by the NSW Government, in partnership with City of Parramatta. It has been fully funded under the NSW Government’s $50 million Parks for People program.
