Hanwha Defense Australia was successful in its bid to deliver the Commonwealth Government’s Land 8116 program in Victoria which will see the company establish a fleet of locally built and maintained self-propelled howitzers for the Australian Army. The program will contribute $330 million to the state’s economy and strengthen Victoria’s defence sector, creating more than 300 high-value local jobs in design, engineering, manufacturing and corporate support. Victorian supply chain businesses will directly benefit from working with Hanwha and their global partners on the Land 8116 program – generating more local jobs, investment and export opportunities. As part of the program, Hanwha will also establish its advanced manufacturing facility, the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence in the greater Geelong region. Earlier this year, the Victorian Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hanwha to enable the Government and Hanwha to explore opportunities for expanded bilateral trade and investment. Hanwha Corporation is South Korea’s largest defence company. Hanwha Defense Australia was established in 2019 and is headquartered in Melbourne. The Victorian defence sector contributes $8.4 billion to the state’s economy each year, employing around 24,000 people in 6,300 businesses. The sector provides services and manufactures defence equipment across military vehicle production, maritime design, aerospace components, digital and cyber security and munitions. |
