A man and a boy are facing court charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a string of armed robberies and attempted break and enters in the Newcastle and Port Stephens areas this year.
Strike Force Nyrang was established by the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad to investigate robberies at three service stations in Sandgate, Williamtown and Wallsend, and the attempted break and enters of two liquor stores in Medowie and Elermore Vale.
Last week, police arrested and charged a 14-year-old boy in relation to the alleged armed robbery of the service station at Newcastle Road, Wallsend on Monday 1 June 2020.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before a Children’s Court today (Wednesday 29 July 2020).
Following further inquiries, investigators attended a home in Medowie and re-arrested the 14-year-old, along with a 36-year-old man, about 7am yesterday (Tuesday 28 July 2020).
A search warrant was executed at the property where several items including clothing were seized.
The pair, who are known to each other, were taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.
The boy was charged with additional offences, including three counts of aggravated break, enter and steal in company, three counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and attempted aggravated break, enter and steal.
The man was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of attempted aggravated break, enter and steal in company, and one count of aggravated break, enter and steal.
Police will allege the pair were involved in the robberies and attempted robberies of multiple businesses through May and June this year.
The 14-year-old was refused bail to appear before a Children’s Court today (Wednesday 29 July 2020).
The man was also bail refused and will face Raymond Terrace Local Court today.
