Man arrested as part of investigation into single punch attack in Sydney CBD

A man has been arrested following an investigation into an assault in Sydney CBD last month, which left another man hospitalised.

About 2.30am on Saturday 23 November 2019, two men – both aged 18 – were walking along Park Street, Sydney, when one of them was struck from behind by an unknown man, who then fled the scene.

Members of the public rendered assistance to the 18-year-old man, who was unconscious for several minutes, until the arrival of emergency services.

NSW Ambulance paramedics took him to hospital for treatment for severe facial injuries and concussion. He has since been discharged.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command established a crime scene and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 22-year-old man at a hotel on George Street, Sydney, about 5pm today (Friday 6 December 2019).

He has been taken to Day Street Police Station, where he will be charged.
