A Carrs Park man will face court today after allegedly approaching a girl with promises of fame, then harassing her family members when they became suspicious of his motives.
About 12pm on Sunday 31 March 2019, a 50-year-old man struck up a conversation with a 17-year-old girl at a shop on Cronulla Street, Cronulla, telling her he was a television executive and was able to get her an acting role.
Police have been told the man contacted the girl later that day, but allegedly became aggressive when she suggested that she bring her parents to any potential meetings. The girl’s brother and father then contacted the man demanding that he stop contacting the girl.
It will be alleged that in the three days after meeting the teen, the man left more than 300 threatening phone messages for her father and brother.
Police from Sutherland Police Area Command and commenced investigations into the incident, ultimately issuing a warrant for the man’s arrest when he couldn’t be located.
Following extensive inquiries, about 4pm yesterday (Monday 2 September 2019), the man was arrested at Taren Point and taken to Sutherland Police Station.
The warrant was executed, and he was charged with use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.
The man was refused bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Tuesday 3 September 2019).
