Marine search – Vernon Islands

Northern Territory Police are currently searching for an overdue vessel.

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 17 March 2020, a 5 metre dinghy with two males on board left Wurrumiyanga to gather food. Last contact with these men was at around 7:00pm last night when they contacted family stating they had broken down and were drifting.

Police were notified overnight and commenced marine search preparations.

First this morning, Water Police Unit used two vessels and an aircraft to search for the two men.

This afternoon, additional resources were engaged with Australian Marine Search Authority (AMSA) Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) joining the search and assisting with air-coordination using a Challenger jet and a Careflight helicopter to increase search areas.
