NSW Local Government elections were to be held this month, on September 4 but due to the coronavirus pandemic were postponed to December 4.

Mayoral elections were to be held in September for mayors elected in September 2018 when their two-year terms had expired.

Councillors are elected for a four year term, held on the second Saturday in September every four years. The postponement of 2020 Local Government elections to 4 December 2021, will not affect the schedule of subsequent council elections. After the December 2021 elections, the next Local Government election will take place in September 2024.

All residents are encouraged to check their enrolment details prior to the election date by calling the NSW Electoral Commission on 1300 135 736 or by visiting the Electoral Commission website.
