McGowan Government appoints two new Gaming and Wagering Commission members

  • State Government continues response to Perth Casino Royal Commission
  • New members bring decades of experience to help strengthen gaming oversight
  • GWCs role vital to WA’s casino regulation reforms
  • Racing and Gaming Minister Dr Tony Buti has appointed two new members to the Gaming and Wagering Commission (GWC), bringing the total number of appointees this year to four.

Helen Creed and Sam Buckeridge bring extensive board, regulatory and management experience to the State’s gambling regulator.

Ms Creed has held a variety of executive and board roles in government and not-for-profit sectors.

Mr Buckeridge is an experienced company director and has held numerous management roles across BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd.

Their appointment reaffirms the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the regulatory framework governing Western Australia’s casino, a priority in its response to the Perth Casino Royal Commission.

Legislation that will give the GWC the necessary powers to enact reforms and restore integrity at the State’s casino was also introduced into Parliament on June 22, 2022.

The State Government thanks outgoing member Steve Dobson for his contribution to the GWC.

As stated by Racing and Gaming Minister Tony Buti:

“The State Government continues to make casino regulation and reform a priority.

“Key to this is ensuring that we have the right people on the board that provide breadth and depth of knowledge to guide and advise the GWC and help drive this reform.

“I congratulate Ms Creed and Mr Buckeridge on their appointment and thank outgoing member Mr Dobson for his work.”
