Melburnians are being encouraged to document and share how their lives changed at home and in their local communities during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic for a digital display that will capture and reflect on stories of resilience, community and ingenuity in 2020.
Museum in my Neighbourhood – a partnership between the Office for Suburban Development and Museums Victoria – is calling on people across greater Melbourne to share local stories of people maintaining social connection despite the significant changes to daily life experienced during the pandemic.
This digital initiative will collate stories and objects such as paintings and photographs, illustrating how people adapted to spending more time at home, in their local communities.
Stories illustrating life during this time will be shared as they’re collected and a selection of stories will become part of a digital display in early 2021, hosted by Museums Victoria.
The display will include stories of families including a gratitude journal written during the pandemic, which has is being donated to the museum.
Museum in my Neighbourhood expands upon community engagement conducted in 2020 through the government’s Metropolitan Partnerships’ Living Locally Survey, which invited people to share local insights about their community during the pandemic.
