Message from Melissa Banks – Head of International Education Centre of Excellence Austrade

Austrade

What a difference 12 months can make.

As I write this, I recall us all keenly awaiting the opening of Australia’s international border, after an initial false start. We had little insight as to how this would be received in the market after a long period of border closure, while other nations had already opened their borders and were allowing current and new international students to return, to continue or to commence their studies.

Today I am reflecting on what has been a spectacular recovery to date. Initially 2022 saw the return of continuing students to our classrooms, campuses, and communities. This was followed by a substantial flow of new students. Visa lodgements indicate that the recovery will continue well into next year.

Austrade has worked hard to reassure students, parents, and agents worldwide that Australia continues to offer world-class qualifications and outcomes, and that the Australian community welcomes and cares about international students. The timing of the ‘Welcome to Australia’ video coincided nicely with the border opening. This was recently supported by a video statement by Minister Farrell and a joint media statement from Senator the Hon Minister Farrell and the Hon Minister Clare.

Austrade’s global organic social and promotional activities have delivered over 2.6 billion impressions (views) globally, resulting in 12 million clicks to the Study Australia website. The Study Australia Partner Hub, located on the Study Australia website, provides agents and providers with dedicated news and resources to support the promotion of Australia as a preferred study destination and includes access to the new Study Australia Marketing Toolkit.

Austrade now hosts a LinkedIn page to share all the latest from the global Austrade International Education team. Information shared includes upcoming events and briefings, global engagement initiatives and useful links to data, insights, and opportunities, including via Austrade’s Market Information Package (MIP).

We will continue to work with clients, stakeholders, and peak bodies to ensure that in the process of recovery from the impacts of COVID, we are able to recover to a stronger and more resilient position. To this end Austrade was pleased to release the results of our TNE Pathways research via a series of webinars. Austrade’s global network of education leads continue to share global market insights through our Market Information Package.
