Minimal shut down for seawalls project – East Gippsland

newspaper

The project to complete the second stage of the Lakes Entrance Seawalls replacement will have a small break over the Easter long weekend.

Works are occurring on the Esplanade between Carpenter and Myer streets, west of the footbridge.

Construction projects usually pause during school holidays; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic restricting people to their homes except for four essential activities, work can continue as there will be no crowds or pressure on car parks.

Council’s contractors plan to stop work from Friday, April 10 and restart on Tuesday, April 14. This may change at short notice if further COVID-19 restrictions are announced.

The project, costing approximately $1.2 million, will see a new concrete seawall installed in front of the bluestone wall. This is due the difficulty in removing the bluestone during the first stage of the project.

This change has the benefit of allowing council to build wider pedestrian paths. The project includes a new 3.3-metre wide shared path and 2.5m wide boardwalk.

The project is expected to be completed by October 2020.
