Minister Keogh – Get involved this Veterans’ Health Week

Department of Veterans' Affairs

get involved this VETERANS’ HEALTH WEEK

Today marks the beginning of Veterans’ Health Week 2023, an opportunity for the veteran community to renew their focus on improving, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Through partnering with ex-service and other community organisations, the Australian Government is supporting events and activities all over the country that shine a light on improving the wellbeing of the veteran community.

This year’s theme is Mental Wellness Matters. Improving the mental health and wellbeing of veterans and families and reducing the risk of suicide is a key priority of the Australian Government.

In recognition of Veterans’ Health Week, I’m participating in the Bravery Trust’s “Bravery Trek” as part of a team, in support of the mental health and wellbeing of current and former serving personnel.

There is no doubt that financial pressures and stressors can place a significant burden on a person’s mental health. The Bravery Trust supports current and former serving personnel understand and manage their finances.

Veterans’ Health Week is an opportunity for the veteran community to turn their attention to their own health and wellbeing, with a huge variety of events happening all over the country.

There is something for everyone; from motorbike rides, to barefoot bowls, chill out sessions, BBQs and family fun days, Veterans’ Health Week events are a great opportunity for the veteran community to come together to have some fun while accessing information, services and supports.
