Mona Foma program set to be highlight of Tassie summer

Nic Street, Minister for Stadia and Events

Tasmanians are set to have some fun in the sun, with Mona Foma taking stage again over February and March 2024.

Today, Mona Foma launched its full arts and music program for next year, featuring a diverse line-up of local and international artists like US rock band Queens of the Stone Age and Australian icon Paul Kelly.

Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said the Rockliff Liberal Government is proud to be a supporter from the start of this internationally renowned festival.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to support events that enrich Tasmania’s vibrant arts and music culture,” Minister Street said.

“The figures don’t lie, last year alone overall attendance for the festival was more than 40,000 including almost 20,000 sales for ticketed events.

“This is an impressive 65 per cent increase on 2022 ticket sales, and we want 2024 to be even bigger and better.

“Both Mona Foma and Dark Mofo were identified as major Tasmanian events in the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $21.5 million 2021 election commitment to secure support for Tasmania’s iconic events.

“Mona Foma has received $2.3 million per festival from 2022 to 2024.

“This eclectic program promises something for everyone, and I encourage all Tasmanians to look out for tickets when they launch on 21 November and get along to Mona Foma 2024.”

The festival will begin in Hobart from 15–25 February with a series of events that include an Indian/Australian cultural exchange program, known as the Indian/Australian Summit.

The northern leg of the festival, from 29 February – 3 March, will feature one evening of performances held in Launceston’s spectacular Cataract Gorge.
