More funding for Tasmania’s screen industry

Elise Archer,Minister for the Arts

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to support our screen industry with three new projects to benefit Screen Tasmania’s latest project development funding round.

The projects will share in $45,000 of project development funding, encouraging more local projects to start production, while also supporting jobs and our economy in this important sector.

The projects include:

  • Platypus Guardian, a natural history documentary about a hidden platypus community in urban Hobart;
  • Bruny, an adaptation for television of the best-selling novel by Tasmanian author, Heather Rose, that is centred around the community of Bruny Island; and
  • Dear Ghosts, a modern ghost story from renowned Launceston-born actor, Rachael Taylor.

Screen production is booming in Tasmania, with drama series Deadloch currently being filmed, reality series The Bridge having recently wrapped filming, and local drama production Bay of Fires to get underway in the coming months.

This latest funding is another demonstration of our ongoing commitment to Tasmanian screen production that has enabled the local industry to build capacity, develop new stories, and provide employment opportunities for many Tasmanians across our cultural and creative industries.
