More Housing Support For Homeless In Mildura

  • Minister for Housing

More people experiencing homelessness in Mildura will have a roof over their heads thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Construction has begun on two three-bedroom homes in Mildura, to be ready for tenants early in 2020. These are funded through the Labor Government’s $27 million Accommodation for Homeless program.

Haven Home Safe was one of eight organisations across the state to receive funding to build and renew properties through phase two of the Accommodation for Homeless program.

The program aims to address homelessness by growing and improving the supply of crisis accommodation and long-term housing, particularly for vulnerable Victorians who need help to get their lives back on track.

Haven Home Safe has acquired properties in Geelong and Bendigo and is building properties in Echuca and Mildura, providing 15 properties in rural and regional areas.

All properties will house vulnerable families at risk of homelessness and will be complemented by case management support for two years, provided by Haven Home Safe.

This support will help families to improve their financial stability, learn living skills, set up a home and look after their health, as well as helping them to renew relationships and care for children.

As noted by Minister for Housing Richard Wynne

“Getting a job, studying and rebuilding your life is really only achievable with a roof over your head – these homes will help families in Mildura break the cycle of homelessness and get back on their feet.”

“This is all part of our record investment in social housing and homelessness services which offer a life-changing helping hand to those at risk.”
