Our local arts sector has been hit hard in 2020, and the ACT Government has been investing in innovative ways to support the survival of the sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In total, the Government committed more than $7 million in economic stimulus to support Canberra’s creatives in 2020, recognising the important contribution of the arts to our community.
This support continues through another round of ACT Governments Arts Activities funding of $5-50k, with 14 Local Canberra artists receiving a total of $325,000 investment.
Activities receiving support include:
- publication of the untold stories of multicultural motherhood in Canberra by Sonja Kama
- creating a new body of glass work for a solo exhibition in the USA by Mel Douglas
- A recording by Kojo Owusu-Ansah (Citizen Kay) on bridging Canberra and Ghana.
Art funding is vital in assisting local artists develop and showcase their work to the public and is part of our commitment to creating opportunities to drive creative projects and support local artists.
The next Arts Activities $5-50k funding round, opening tomorrow Tuesday 1 December, will have another allocation of $325,000 for Canberra artists. Artists are encouraged to discuss their application with artsACT before submitting.
This funding round is just one of the many ways the ACT Government is supporting Canberra’s artists and art organisations. Earlier this year the arts sector received more than $900,000 for the new HOMEFRONT program and $375,000 towards the new Creative Recovery and Resilience program, all designed by the Government to support jobs in Canberra’s creative sector during a turbulent year.
