Townsville City Council is furthering its investment in the region’s future with the award of more than $25 million worth of tenders last month.
Business Services and Finance Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said the tenders had a strong focus on local business.
“Council has a longstanding commitment to engaging local and Indigenous-owned businesses through its procurement processes, and it has continued this commitment through the month of January,” Cr Ryder said.
“Of the three tenders awarded, two were focused on refreshing lists of suppliers, including the Indigenous Suppliers Panel, consisting of 21 suppliers, and the Asset Management Consultancy Services suppliers, consisting of 55 suppliers.
“This is a long list of businesses, many from North Queensland, who will benefit from Council’s commitment to supporting locally-owned and Indigenous-owned business.
“Council is well on its way to achieving its goal of having 90 per cent of its procurement spend with local businesses in the next five years.”
The three tenders awarded by Council in January were the Horseshoe Bay Road rehabilitation and guardrail, the Indigenous Suppliers Panel and the Asset Management Consultancy Services Panel.
Councillors also noted the release of three tenders for January during yesterday’s Council meeting, including the design and construction of Knox Court slope stabilisation, the wet hire 2022 annual supplier refresh, and the design, construction and lease of workshop facilities.
