Firefighters from CFA, FFMVic and FRV brought a bushfire at Main Ridge under control this afternoon after a previous roadside burn-off flared up in windy conditions.
A fire broke out in along Limestone Road in Main Ridge just after 2pm today before spreading into adjoining Greens Bush, which is public land.
24 appliances, including both fire trucks and support vehicles, from several agencies responded to the scene, including 16 CFA fire trucks. Additional Ultra Light Tankers were brought in to help with mobility in the park.
A Firebird helicopter was also dispatched from Moorabbin Airport, providing surveillance from above to help guide firefighters through dense bush.
Operations Officer Tim Desmond said it was believed a roadside burn-off had flared up in this afternoon’s windy conditions.
The fire burnt about 2.5 ha before it was was declared under control about 5.30pm.
Mr Desmond said FFMVic firefighters would monitor the scene overnight.
