National Police Remembrance Day 2021, South Australia

A service in honour of National Police Remembrance Day will be held at the South Australia Police Academy at Taperoo today.

Hosted by SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, the service is held in memory of police officers killed in the performance of their duty in the region.

The service will take place at 11am at the South Australia Police ‘Wall of Remembrance’ – located at the Police Academy, in memory of the past 61 fallen SA police officers. The ceremony will also pay tribute to the 30 year anniversary of the death of Senior Constable Gordon James Loft who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our community whilst performing road traffic duties in Athelstone, SA in 1991.We remember all those who suffered the same and acknowledge the impact on family, friends, colleague and our community.

National Police Remembrance Day was first held in 1989.Commemorated annually on 29 September, the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of police, National Police Remembrance Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the dangers of the policing profession, reflect upon the sacrifices made by dedicated officers and focus on the challenges that lie ahead.

Special guests invited to the ceremony include the Lieutenant Governor of South Australia Her Excellency Professor Brenda Wilson AM, Hon Vincent Tarzia MP, Minister Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services and representatives from defence, government, emergency services and support agencies.

A number of venues across the City will be lit in blue and white chequered on the evening of 29 September as show of support and acknowledgement of this day. These locations are:
