National Weather Forecast: Showers For South-east

BOM

Hello, Sarah from the Bureau here with your national weather forecast for tomorrow. So that’s Thursday, the 20th of August. So we’ll start off by taking a look at tomorrow’s weather map.

We have this tropical humidity streaming in from the Indian Ocean being drawn into this trough and extending a cloud band across much of the country all the way into New South Wales.

While onshore winds will see a few showers pepper the east coast.

Then down in the far south-east, a return of the wet and windy weather thanks to that trough. Then out in the far south-west.

Just a few isolated showers clearing later. So let’s go around the country now. Taking a closer look. State by state, starting with Queensland.

It’s going to be a mild and partly cloudy day across eastern districts, with those south-easterly winds bringing moisture and showers onshore but tending more scattered about the Sunshine Coast and the North Tropical Coast.

As we head further inland though generally dry and sunny conditions apart from the very far south-west, where a few isolated showers are expected to develop later in the evening.

For Brisbane, a partly cloudy day with a shower or two and a top of 23 °C.

Moving on to New South Wales, we’ve got that cloud band with scattered showers extending from the west through central districts into the south-east, with a risk of showers as we head west of the ranges.

Elsewhere in the east, though, just the chance of a shower about the coast and also the ranges that will be most likely through those northern areas.

Daytime temperatures a couple of degrees above average for this time of year, about eastern and northern parts, but much cooler conditions underneath that cloud band.

For Sydney, a partly cloudy day with a slight chance of a shower in the west and a top of 23 °C, while for Canberra, cloudy with showers and a top of 17 °C.

Moving on to Victoria.

Scattered showers are expected across north-eastern parts but tending more scattered south of the divide. And then we have more showers.

Scattered showers developing in the south-west during the afternoon and pushing into the central districts during the afternoon and evening associated with that trough.

For Melbourne, a partly cloudy day with showers developing later, most likely during the evening and a top of 18 °C.

Moving on to Tasmania, we’ve got scattered showers that will start to contract to western and northern parts. Daytime temperatures between 2 to 4 degrees above average.

For Hobart, a partly cloudy day with a chance of a shower, most likely during the morning and a top of 18 °C.

Moving on to South Australia.

Showers are expected to develop through those southern agricultural areas, but most likely about the windward slopes and coasts.

While that cloud band bringing scattered showers, rain areas and possible thunderstorms to the Pastoral and Flinders districts.

For Adelaide, a partly cloudy day with showers and a top of 18 °C.

Moving on to Western Australia, we’ve got scattered showers extending from the southern Pilbara all the way into the interior, with a risk of thunderstorms as well, while down in the South West Land Division, just isolated light showers that are expected to clear by evening.

Fine, dry and mostly sunny as we head into the south-east.

For Perth, a partly cloudy day with a slight chance of a shower and a top of 21 °C.

Moving on to the Territory, we’ve got the chance of showers and storms through the far south and as well the chance of a shower about the eastern Top End, but otherwise generally dry and sunny conditions.

For Darwin, a sunny day and a top of 33 °C.
