New BCA President starts today

Business Council of Australia

The Business Council of Australia welcomes incoming BCA President Geoff Culbert, who today takes over leadership of the BCA Board from outgoing President Tim Reed.

Mr Culbert brings extensive commercial and leadership experience in both domestic and global markets and has long been a prominent voice in the business community.

His leadership as CEO of Sydney Airport ensured crucial supply chains remained open during the pandemic and helped navigate the renewal of the aviation sector which is now at pre-pandemic levels.

Mr Culbert said he was looking forward to tackling the big challenges that lie ahead for the Australian business community and emphasised the need to recover our economic competitiveness as a nation.

“Australia is at the crossroads – we face significant challenges to maintain our economic strength and cement our position in a highly competitive global landscape,” Mr Culbert said.

“The BCA has a critical role to play, to make the case for reform, and to create the space needed for governments to act decisively and with a long-term plan and vision. I’m looking forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to face up to the challenge.

“I want to acknowledge Tim’s tenure as BCA President. He has been an outstanding President and deserves enormous credit for everything he has achieved over the past three years.”

BCA Chief Executive Bran Black welcomed Mr Culbert to the BCA and paid tribute to outgoing President Tim Reed.

“Australian business is fortunate to have someone of Geoff’s calibre as BCA President. Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for business advocacy to the organisation, and I am looking forward to working closely with him as we try to recapture our economic competitiveness as a nation,” Mr Black said.

“Tim has served as President since 2019 and he has done an extraordinary job in uniting the business community in response to some of Australia’s most significant challenges in modern history – bushfires, floods and a global pandemic.

“I sincerely thank Tim for his service and for his work making Australia a fairer and more prosperous nation.”

Outgoing BCA President Tim Reed welcomed Mr Culbert to the Board also.

“I would like to congratulate Geoff on assuming the role as President, Geoff is a passionate advocate for the positive role that business plays in our community and I know his wealth of experience and energy will stand Australian business in good stead.

“The Business Council remains Australia’s premier business group, and our success and the success of our members is key to Australia’s prosperity. Bran and Geoff lead a talented team and I leave the organisation in good hands.

“Thank you to the Board and staff for their tireless efforts during my tenure.”
