New graduate nurses commencing at LGH

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

Congratulations and welcome to the 44 new graduate nurses, who will begin their careers at the Launceston General Hospital this week.

Every year the Tasmanian Health Service recruits newly graduated nurses to work within our hospitals and health services as part of the Transition to Practice program.

In fact, we have delivered an 80% increase in the number of positions available in this program – a huge uplift and investment in the future of our health service.

Importantly, this year there is an increased number of graduate nurses working within operating theatres, which will be a huge boost for Tasmania’s training in this crucial area and help to secure our future workforce.

These graduate nursing positions are provided with additional support, tailored to suit the transition into their new role and help them develop their professional skills.

This program is incredibly important within our health system because it is providing opportunities for new graduates, who are the next generation of our health workforce.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has provided additional graduate nurse positions every year since 2014, and we look forward to welcoming further rounds of this program commencing later in the year.
