New international market development opportunity for Tasmanian artists

Elise Archer,Minister for Arts

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting Tasmania’s strong and vibrant cultural and creative industries to learn about and connect with international markets.

I am pleased to announce a new partnership between Arts Tasmania and Asialink Arts (part of the University of Melbourne) that will support Tasmanian artists and arts organisations to research or create new work for markets in Singapore, and in South East Asia more broadly.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, international mobility has been limited – with disruptions to live presentations and exhibitions now continuing into 2022. This new two year partnership between Arts Tasmania and Asialink Arts will encourage and support our cultural and creative industries, and strengthen international relationships.

The activities under this partnership will focus on audience engagement, developing connections and supporting partnerships, and will be delivered in a COVID-safe environment using digital and hybrid approaches, leading to direct market opportunities in Singapore.

This partnership delivers on key objectives identified in our Cultural and Creative Industries Recovery Strategy. These include extending industry reach, developing new markets and trade opportunities, and building international relationships.

On Wednesday, 23 February 2022, Asialink Arts will present an online forum for Tasmanian artists and arts organisations. This forum will be delivered by Singaporean experts in the performing arts, visual arts and multi-disciplinary and digital arts, with a focus on understanding the arts in Singapore.
