The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to help more job seekers and businesses access more personalised support through the opening of the new Southcentral Regional Jobs Hub.
Based in Pontville, it is the fourth Jobs Hub to officially open its doors for business, helping job seekers find work and connect local employers with new staff.
Operated by Brighton Council, it will service the needs of job seekers and employers across four local government areas with the support of Southern Midlands, Derwent Valley and Central Highlands councils.
The Southcentral Workforce Network Jobs Hub at Brighton will receive $1.625 million over three years as part of the $10.6 million investment made by our government to extend the Jobs Hubs network in the State.
Jobs Tasmania’s Regional Jobs Hub Network aims to help more than 2000 additional Tasmanians into work over the next three years.
Importantly, Jobs Hubs are making more dedicated employment support services available right across the state particularly in areas that are experiencing higher unemployment and low levels of workforce participation.
The Southcentral Workforce Network’s Jobs Hub is helping connect local businesses with new staff, as well as support significant infrastructure projects in the region find enthusiastic new workers.
The Jobs Hub will be guided by an advisory board that includes representatives from councils, local business leaders and community groups.
Chair of the sub regional group of Councils and Brighton Council Mayor, Leigh Gray said the Jobs Hub will build on the evident success of the group’s current workforce development project.
“The State Government’s funding for this important initiative is recognition of the commitment and success to date of our four councils working together to identify and develop employment opportunities in the region.”
Chair of the Jobs Hub Advisory Board, Southern Midlands Council Mayor, Alex Green added the establishment of the Southcentral Jobs Hub demonstrates how the four councils are working proactively to lift employment opportunities for people in their municipalities, while providing potential employers with suitably trained, employment-ready employees to provide a vital boost to the region.
“We are delighted that the State Government has provided funding support for the Brighton-based Jobs Hub.”
The outlook for local employment outcomes in the south-central region is very positive with significant opportunities for employment growth across a range of different sectors.
Sectors experiencing particularly strong employment growth are transport and logistics with major infrastructure projects such as the Bridgewater Bridge and Midlands Highway upgrade; agriculture, tourism and hospitality, and the distilling and brewing industry.
Through the Jobs Hub, job seekers and businesses can look forward to increased and personalised support to connect with the services they need.
