New members join ACT Heritage Council

Three new members have been appointed to the ACT Heritage Council to help conserve and promote our region’s unique history.

Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman said the Council played an important role providing advice on the conservation of cultural, natural and Aboriginal heritage places and objects in the ACT.

“I’m pleased to see new members bringing their experience to the ACT Heritage Council to continue its work maintaining and celebrating Canberra’s rich heritage,” Minister Gentleman said.

“Last financial year the Council issued over 700 approvals and advice, demonstrating its significant workload and commitment to our heritage.

“The council has adapted to new ways of working during the COVID-19 health emergency and this will continue with the new members joining.”

The appointment of the new members begins on 12 June 2020. The new members are:

  • Dr Laura Dawes, who brings expertise in history
  • Professor Roslynne Hansen, who brings expertise in town planning
  • Dr Douglas Hassall, who brings expertise in history and town planning.

“I would like to thank outgoing Council members Professor Nicholas Brown, Mr Doug Williams and Ms Rachel Jackson for their significant contributions,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The ACT Government’s Heritage Grants also close soon I encourage Canberrans to apply. We are particularly interested in heritage conservation works for private residential dwellings. If you’re a homeowner with a heritage-listed property, now is the time to think about conservation works.”

Applications for the Heritage Grants close Friday 12 June 2020. Grant application forms and guidelines are available from www.environment.act.gov.au/heritage or by phoning 13 22 81.
