New Place to Meet in Werribee City Centre

An exciting public outdoor space in Werribee City Centre’s West End precinct will open on Friday, 1 April. Community members are invited to join Wyndham City’s Mayor and Councillors for the public launch at the corner of Watton Street and Wedge Street, Werribee from 5pm.

Located at the front of the Wyndham Cultural Centre, the new open space features a beautiful timber deck, innovative shade structure made from repurposed containers, extensive seating and free Wi-Fi.

Creating a new hub for performances and community activations was a key design consideration for reimagining this space. Neon lights bring the space to life in the evening, creating a fun, playful feeling.

This exciting space is a new place for people to meet and catch up while also providing a welcoming entrance to the Wyndham Cultural Centre, Wyndham Art Gallery and Werribee Library.

Wyndham City Mayor Peter Maynard said: “Werribee City Centre’s West End is being enhanced with the creation of this new outdoor area. This precinct offers great food, entertainment and shopping, and it’s fitting that our community now has a vibrant place to gather.”

“We’re are proud to be investing in our local economy, and we invite visitors to come and experience the many delights to be had in Werribee’s West End.

Wyndham City Council was pleased to receive funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program and the Victorian Government’s State Covid Outdoor Activation Grant to support the creation of this new public space.

The space will also be the entry to MADE on Watton: Reimagined, which is set to open in April in the corner tenancy of the Wyndham Cultural Centre. MADE on Watton is transitioning from a Council funded initiative and will now be run as a small business by an independent operator, The Reyes Retail Group.

The business will continue to empower local creatives by showcasing local artists, makers and designers from Wyndham, while also stocking other Australian-made and designed products. Offering unique and highly sought-after brands and locally made products, the pop-up shop will become a destination for locals and visitors alike and will be a welcome addition to the precinct.

Wyndham City Creative City portfolio holder Cr Marcel Mahfoud said: “Wyndham City Council is thrilled to see MADE on Watton is embarking on an exciting, next chapter.”

“Our Council is serious about supporting local makers, creatives and small businesses, and it’s gratifying to see our community inspire and support one another and inject new life into Wyndham’s West End precinct.”
