The McGowan Government has today announced five new primary schools will open in 2022 for growing suburbs across Perth.
The investment of more than $116 million will ease enrolment pressure at existing primary schools and provide families with state-of-the-art schools close to home.
Alkimos (Shorehaven) Primary School (planning name) located in the northern area of Alkimos will have permanent capacity for 650 students. The $26.4 million facility will cater for students from kindergarten to Year 6.
Nearby a new $20.7 million Burns Beach Primary School (planning name) will also provide an option for families in the popular coastal suburb north of Perth, with permanent capacity for 430 students.
Forrestdale South East Primary School (planning name) located in Piara Waters will be built at a cost of $26.2 million with permanent capacity for 540 students, including education support facilities for children with disability.
Treeby will see construction of the new $20.3 million Treeby (Banjup West) Primary School (planning name) which will be built with permanent capacity for 540 students.
In the south-western suburbs, Wellard Village Primary School (planning name) will provide permanent capacity for 650 students and be built at a cost of $22.6 million.
Local architects have been appointed to design the new schools. They are: TAG Architects (Alkimos); Cox Architecture (Burns Beach); Carabiner (Forrestdale South East), Christou Design Group (Treeby) and Oldfield Knott Architects (Wellard Village).
Construction will begin in late 2020, with schools completed for the start of the 2022 school year.
This is in addition to the following four new schools which will welcome students in 2020:
- Sheoak Grove Primary School;
- Beenyup Primary School;
- Caversham Valley Primary School; and
- Grandis Primary School – stage 2 permanent facilities.
Baldivis South Primary School, Brabham Primary School, Sunningdale Primary School, Harrisdale North Primary School and Southern River Primary School are all set to open in 2021.
The McGowan Government is investing more than $450 million in 2019-20 to build new WA public schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, creating jobs for Western Australians and ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“Schools are the heart of our local communities and provide children with essential learning opportunities and high-quality education to set them up for the best start at life.
“My Government is committed to building schools and strengthening communities to meet the needs of families in our fastest-growing suburbs.
“Jobs are our number one focus and the construction of these five new schools will also create at least 1,500 jobs.”

“The McGowan Government has planned carefully to respond to population growth and more students in our schools.
“We are building bigger schools in the areas where there’s increased demand – unlike the former Liberal government which failed to respond, resulting in many schools bursting at the seams.
“We’re proud to deliver new schools to Alkimos and Burns Beach in the north, Piara Waters and Treeby south of Perth, and through to Wellard.
“My priority is ensuring that all children in WA have access to the best possible education we can provide.
“These new schools will alleviate enrolment pressure at popular existing schools and give families additional education options close to home.”

- An Education Support Centre that will cater for an additional 50 students
- The new school will alleviate enrolment pressure at the nearby Aspiri Primary School
Treeby (Banjup West) Primary School (planning name):
- Located on Sapphire Drive, Treeby
- Construction begins in late 2020
- Opening in 2022
- Accommodating 540 students in permanent classrooms from kindergarten to Year 6
- The new school will alleviate enrolment pressure at the nearby Atwell Primary School
Wellard Village Primary School (planning name):
- Located on Lambeth Circle and Brentford Parade, Wellard
- Construction begins in late 2020
- Opening in 2022
- Accommodating 650 students in permanent classrooms from kindergarten to Year 6
- The new school will alleviate enrolment pressure at the nearby Leda Primary School and Wellard Primary School
