  • Four workshops will be hosted in November with registrations open
  • The State Government has launched a series of workshops to equip local businesses with the skills to export to Asia and engage more effectively with Asian partners and investors.

With 85 per cent of Western Australia’s total merchandise exports heading to Asia, and more than 50 per cent of the nation’s total merchandise exports to Asia coming from the State, the workshops aim to enable more local businesses to foster stronger trade relationships with the region.

The Asia Business Capability Workshops will also support businesses to add value to COVID recovery business plans, diversify their market strategies by engaging with emerging Asian markets and further develop their professional and business networks.

Supporting Asian literacy and capability in local businesses is one the four key themes of Western Australia’s Asian Engagement Strategy 2019-2030: Our future with Asia.

The Asian Engagement Strategy sets the State’s priorities for trade and investment with Asia, recognising the need to diversify the economy and develop greater Asia capability in the workforce.

The focus for the workshops is on the markets of India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations markets of Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

As stated by Asian Engagement Minister Peter Tinley:

“With 9 of our top 10 trading partners located in Asia, it’s important for the State Government to support businesses who are keen to engage with and eventually export to our closest international markets.

“The workshops announced today are an opportunity for local businesses to learn about what it takes to develop strong relationships in Asia and open the doors to new markets.”
