A new, single register for South Australians applying for social housing launching today will make the process quicker and easier.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said the new Single Housing Register replaces two separate registers for Aboriginal, public and community housing.
The new register includes Housing SA and at least 24 Community Housing Providers.
“Previously, South Australians had to apply for social housing on two different systems and they were faced with various registration forms – a process that could be both confusing and time consuming,” said Minister Lensink.
“From today, customers can apply for public, community and Aboriginal housing in one place on the new Single Housing Register, saving them time and energy.
“The single register embeds a principle of ‘no wrong door’ for customers, enabling all housing providers to register customers for various housing options, which supports more efficient customer service.”
The new register will have no impact on a customer’s application status and their primary contact organisation will remain the same. For example, key contacts for South Australians applying for a Housing SA property will remain staff at their local Housing SA office.
Community Housing Association of South Australia CEO Gareth Norman said customers would benefit from a single register.
“The Community Housing Council is encouraged that the launch of the Single Housing Register will transform the process for all Community Housing Providers and in turn, will enhance the lived experience for those applying for housing,” said Mr Norman.
A Single Housing Register delivers on a component in the Marshall Liberal Government’s new $550 million housing and homelessness strategy Our Housing Future 2020-30 to simplify the social housing system, making it easier for customers to access housing services.
