Nominations now open for the Queensland Police Service First Nations Peoples and Communities Awards

We are thrilled to announce that nominations for the inaugural Queensland Police Service First Nations Peoples and Communities Awards are now open! These awards aim to recognise and honour the exceptional contributions made by members of the QPS, personnel of other government departments, community organisations, and individuals from the community who have assisted the QPS in serving Queensland’s First Nations People and Communities.

At the heart of these awards lies the spirit of collaboration and dedication to enhancing the safety and well-being of our individuals and groups. We encourage you all to participate and nominate deserving individuals or teams for the relevant award categories. Whether they come from within the QPS or the wider community, your nominations can make a significant impact in acknowledging their efforts.

Community Service Award

The Community Service Award is open to individuals or teams from community groups, government organisations, or the community itself who have demonstrated outstanding dedication in:

• Providing a service to the QPS and/or our First Nations People and Communities; and

• Delivering outcomes that enhance the safety of individuals or groups, with a focus on generating awareness, effecting social change, or providing opportunities for First Nations Persons.

Please note that this award is not open to QPS members. However, we encourage our internal members to consider nominating their external community counterparts who deserve recognition for their exceptional contributions.

• Nominations close on 1 August, 2023.

• The awards ceremony will take place on 4 September 2023 at the CrystalBrook Flynn venue, 68/72 Abbott Street, Cairns, during the First Nations Mayor’s Summit Awards Night.
