NOPSEMA Advisory Board appointments

Two new members have been appointed to the Advisory Board of Australia’s offshore energy regulator and two current members have been reappointed.

Former senior government executives Victoria Jackson and Michael Lawson PSM joined the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management (NOPSEMA) Board for a three-year term from 7 January 2022.

Minister for Resources and Water Keith Pitt said the board provides strategic advice and makes policy recommendations to NOPSEMA.

Announcing the appointments today, Minister Pitt said the new members’ skill sets and strong credentials in government and resources sector matters will bolster the board’s expertise.

“Ms Jackson’s and Mr Lawson’s extensive senior executive experience in government relating to the energy, minerals and resources sector will be of value to the board with regards to strategic public policy,” Minister Pitt said.

Minister Pitt also announced the reappointments of current board members Ms Anthea Tinney PSM and Mr Christopher Blackmore for another three years, until January 2025.

Minister Pitt said Ms Tinney’s knowledge of environmental management, legislation and regulatory regimes and Mr Blackmore’s expertise in maritime matters, particularly with regards to the safety case approach, contribute to the board’s robust understanding of domestic and international practices and trends.

“These appointments will ensure the board maintains a diversity of skills and experience, and can continue to provide high-quality public policy and strategic advice across a range of topics of relevance to the offshore petroleum industry,” Minister Pitt said.
