A Townsville man is one of the five winners from the 2020 North Queensland Ceramic Awards.
Warren Ogden’s piece Monolith has won the acquisitive $1000 EMU Sportswear Award, while Mahala Hill won the acquisitive $10,000 City of Townsville Art Collection Award for Armoured Mist Frog.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the 89 finalists in the competition were incredible works.
“I am always pleasantly surprised by just how high quality the ceramic works submitted into the North Queensland Ceramic Awards is,” Cr Greaney said.
“This year’s awards are no exception. We’ve had entries from our home state, as well as from across the country and even a couple of entries from Hong Kong, which is a fantastic result.
“Having a Townsville local amongst the winners is wonderful, and just goes to show the calibre of our local artists.”
Cr Greaney said the winning pieces were all very different from each other.
“The five award winners are one-of-a-kind, they all tell their own unique stories as standalone pieces,” she said.
“Now that Perc Tucker Regional Gallery is open again I’d strongly recommend everyone to go and check out the finalists, who have created stunning works.”
The North Queensland Ceramic Awards will be exhibited at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery until Sunday 20 September.
