Northern Territory cadets parade together

RAAF

Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) from every squadron across the Northern Territory came together recently for the 8 Wing AAFC combined end-of-year parade – the first time the complete wing has paraded since 2018.

The milestone took place at RAAF Base Darwin, with cadets demonstrating to family and friends what they have achieved throughout the year.

The event also marked another important occasion for 8 Wing AAFC as Australian Navy Cadets (ANC) joined the parade for the first time.

Cadet units actively seek out opportunities for cross-service cooperation. Deputy Head of ADF Cadets Air Commodore Grant Pinder, who reviewed the parade, said the exposure and interaction with the ANC was a great example of this, building on core values of the youth development programs.

“The cadet programs give the cadets exposure to a range of opportunities that exist within Defence, and are an excellent opportunity for young Australians who are interested in military life,” Air Commodore Pinder said.

The ADF cadet programs support young people through activities that help them thrive in a team environment, improve communication skills and become responsible members of the local community.

The programs inspire them to come together to learn new life skills, make new friends and reach their full potential in a safe environment.

“The cadets experience the fun of the program, while also being challenged and learning about leadership, team building and survival skills – things that set them up for life,” Air Commodore Pinder said.

“I have seen first-hand how young people become more confident, capable and resilient; therefore, becoming more responsible members of the community and making lifelong friends.

“The friendships the cadets have formed between one another are strong enough to last a lifetime.

“I wish to congratulate the award recipients and also those who are finishing up their time with the AAFC and ANC.”
