NSW Government launches 20-year roadmap for industry

The New South Wales Government has released its NSW 20-Year R&D Roadmap, mapping its long-term strategy for turning the state’s research and development capabilities into new world-leading industries and jobs.

According to the NSW Government, the R&D Roadmap contains a 20-year vision for NSW ‘to produce more world-leading new technologies, products and services, and develop and sustain globally competitive advantages and future industries that improve productivity, standards of living, quality of life, and the natural environment’.

The NSW Government’s 20-Year Roadmap has identified four technology themes – biotechnology, digital, materials and chemistry, and energy – and 39 industry applications, which will inform and guide the NSW Government’s investment and activities in R&D over the next 20 years.

The NSW Government has developed ‘Action plans’ for each theme and application identified in the Roadmap, to accelerate research and technology commercialisation.

The R&D Roadmap is an outcome of the Accelerating R&D in NSW Action Plan, launched by Hon. Gabrielle Upton MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.

NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte said, “The Roadmap is the culmination of an extensive research and consultation process led by the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer over the past six months.”
