NSW latest coronavirus data as at 27 May

As at 8pm Tuesday 26 May 2020, there have been two additional cases of COVID-19 diagnosed since 8pm 25 May, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,089.

There have been five previous cases excluded from the total.

There were 7,617 tests carried out in the reporting period, compared with 4,621 in the previous 24 hours. Nearly 465,000 COVID-19 tests have now been carried out in NSW.

There are currently 85 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes one person being treated in an intensive care unit. They require a ventilator.

There are now 2,663 people in NSW who have recovered from COVID-19.

Both of the two new cases are of schoolchildren in Sydney’s East.

A 10-year-old student at Moriah College in Queens Park was confirmed with COVID-19 and is now recovering at home. A total of 28 students and 3 teachers were identified as close contacts from the school, which has been closed for deep cleaning. Contact tracing and further investigations are underway.

A 12-year-old student at Waverley College was confirmed with COVID-19 and is recovering at home. A total of 44 students and 10 teachers were identified as close contacts from the school, which is now closed for deep cleaning. Contact tracing and further investigations are underway.

Both of the students were driven to school in private vehicles.

As previously advised, NSW Health is modifying how it records testing numbers moving forward to take into account how many times a person has had an individual test, until they become positive.

Once the person has tested positive, subsequent testing to confirm whether they are clear of the virus will not be recorded in the overall count as those subsequent tests will not add to the number of infections in the community.

NSW Health is again urging anyone feeling unwell – even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – to come forward and get tested, so cases in the community are identified as quickly as possible.
